Company

Who are you?

Golden Arm Games is quite simply a group of gamers coming together to design games that are fun and different from the usual games that you play.

Who's in the company?

The main guy is Kevin Horwitz, known as Setratus on the forums here or Largo Sama on RPG.net. There are a few others that work part time/freelance with him.

Where did the name Golden Arm Games come from?

This came up after a long discussion between Kevin and Dan Loayza, known as Cenobite on here and RPG.net. They are both huge fans of Shaw Brothers kung fu movies and one of their favorites is the movie, Kid with a Golden Arm. Hence, Golden Arm Games.

Can I work for Golden Arm Games?

At this time, unfortunately, no. Talk to us after Chop Socky becomes successful!

Can I send you a game submission for you to produce?

If you've got an idea for a game, feel free to pitch it to us. If we like it, we'll contact you and work out a deal to develop the game. However, at this point, don't hold your hopes up.

Is this your full time job?

Don't we wish! While we would *love* to be able to do this full time, at the current time, Golden Arm Games is a labor of love that we do in our spare time.

Where can I get your games?

At this time, we don't have a game to purchase! We plan to release the Chop Socky rulebook by the end of 2007 which will be available online in print and PDF form. Depending on how that does, we'll either work on a card game or if Chop Socky is very successful, an expansion book for the game.

Chop Socky

What is Chop Socky?

Chop Socky is a modern martial arts miniatures game with an element of the fanatasic.

When will it be released?

People who have been following this for some time will say 'Yeah right', but this should be released at the end of 2007.

Why have their been delays?

We know many game companies delay games often, sometimes without explanation. For me, it was quite simply we had planned on releasing the game in January of 2007 at the Boston convention, Arisia. However, Kevin was also getting married in October of 2006. The stress of planning a wedding, writing the rulebook, and running demoes for the game pushed him a bit overboard. In the end, he chose to deal with the wedding first. We think he made the right choice!

When will the miniatures be released?

ARGH! Unfortunately, miniatures cost mucho dinero. We would *love* to be able to put out official Chop Socky miniatures. However, at this point, the game will be released with paper cutouts to set on on bases. We know this stinks, but if we can make this game successful, we'll be able to put up the money to be able to produce the miniatures.

Alrighty, no miniatures. What about a cover art preview?

That will actually be out shortly. Kevin is actually just finishing up the cover text and we'll show a low-resolution version of it. We think it looks pretty neat!

What about artwork in the book?

There are sixty black and white images in the book, all in the warrior description section.

Who did the artwork?

Empty Room Studios took care of the artwork for us. Very nice guys! They helped us come up with some great ideas!

Could you give us a rules preview?

Unfortunately, I can't give you too much of a preview. You'll have to get the book for that! One thing I can tell you about is that it will be d6 based and all models have hex bases.

What about the setting?

The setting is described in the Chop Socky section. To boil it down to the VERY bare bone basics, six factions are fighting each other for various reasons. See? We told you it would be bare bones!

Will I be able to switch from Praying Mantis style to Crane style?

Fool! That will never work again our... *Ahem*... what we meant to say is that during development of the game, it was a consideration to throw in style switching fun. However, at least for the core game, we kept it simple. You can use powers based on the five Chinese elements, Fire, Water, Wood, Metal, Earth, and a sixth Element called Dark. You cannot switch your Elements.

How many models are usually used per side?

In a standard game, we've seen as low as five (Very well equipped New Order) to as many as in the mid 50s (Spirit Swarm Underworld). I would say on average, you should expect to see about a dozen models or so per side.

How many pages will the book be?

About six months ago, we would have said about 130. However, it keeps growing and growing! We're looking at about 200 pages now.

What will the book cost?

Unknown since the page count isn't finished yet. Somewhere in the $19.99-$29.99 range though.
